🎹 Week 7: How to Use Landmark Notes to Find the Right Key

This week, we’re helping your student unlock one of the most useful tools in learning piano: landmark notes.
These are notes that are easy to find because of how they line up with the black keys on the keyboard. Once your student knows them, they can figure out where to place their hands for just about any song.

🎥 Watch: Finding Notes Using Landmark Patterns

📺 In this video, Paul explains:
  • How to spot the repeating 2-black-key and 3-black-key patterns
  • How to find C (just before the group of 2 black keys)
  • How to find F (just before the group of 3 black keys)
  • How to find D (the “sandwich key” in the middle of 2 black keys)
  • How to move up or down from C using the musical alphabet
✅ Why This MattersLandmark notes are like anchors—they help your student:
  • Know exactly where to place their hands
  • Recognize note patterns in music more easily
  • Feel confident when starting a new piece
  • Stop guessing and start understanding the keyboard

💬 Encouragement for Families
If your student feels confused reading notes this week—that’s okay. It means they’re transitioning from following instructions to thinking like a musician. This is a huge milestone in their growth.

🎯 Parents: You don’t need to read music to help.
If you can find the groups of black keys, you can help your student find C or D—and that’s a big confidence boost for both of you.
